As my kids have gotten older, and I have had more time to focus on my writing, I have found that my heart is with middle grade stories. And because I am writing middle grade, I have been reading middle grade and young adult. These are some of my favorites.
I just started Words on Bathroom Walls and already love it. It is about Adam, a teenager who has Schizophrenia and sees things that aren’t really there, like Rebecca, a beautiful girl who keeps an eye on him and teaches him to juggle, The Mob Boss who’s always shooting up the other mobsters, and a naked guy who is extremely polite. Adam has started an experimental drug trial which goes well at first, but when it starts to fail, he has to try to hide his visions from his new friend (and possibly more), Maya.
Adam won’t talk to his therapist, so instead writes everything that’s going on in a journal and that is how this story is told. He has an amazing voice; funny, quirky, honest and unique.
Past Loves-That I still love, of course!
