Friends for so long
Most every summer a girls’
Weekend at the lake
This past year has seen quite
A variety of weather
Bright sunshine as
Kids graduate from high school
A downpour with moves
Across the city and the country
And a tornado with
The unexpected death of a parent
But here we are
Together still
Swimming in the rain
Sometimes I want
To hide from the world
Lay down in a
Field of sunflowers
Safe, small, quiet, alone
Surrounded by soft green
Covered by joyous yellow
The ground warm
The wind soft
I think
I will stay
Here
A little
Bit
Longer
A quiet rain
of bright red leaves,
catch on the branches
of stark pine trees.
All decked out in their
brilliant fall best.
They shimmy and sway
at the autumn fest.
Small white feather
Floating on water
Carried by wind and waves
Sometimes
Gentle ups and downs
Sometimes
Huge peaks and valleys
But still it floats
Resilient
The fish jumps out of the water
holding his breath
to see the sky
to fly
to be free
for a moment
I dive under the water
holding my breath

to glide
to be free
for a moment

color of water
path of a raindrop
pause before the punch line
space between words
weight of a kiss
empty doorway
dropped stitch
cloudless sky
Sitting in a soft chair on the deck
I listen to the melody of birds
And children’s voices lifted in play
I am hidden from the shining sun
in the cool shade of a bright umbrella
Peach seltzer makes sweet bubbles
on my tongue
Fat bumblebees buzz and dance
in the pine trees
releasing little yellow fireworks of pollen
that float on the breeze to
tickle my nose and make
me sleepy
Like the field of poppies
in Wizard Of Oz
I’ll just close my eyes
for a moment
The long grass
tickles my toes
and
the warm breeze
blows me
tiny pink kisses
from the cherry tree
as if to say
thank you
for taking the time
to notice
the beauty
in today
I like
To talk
To
Inanimate objects
Because they
Are
Very good
Listeners
I told the lamp
A story
That was
Very very long
I practiced an
Imaginary speech
In front of
The washing machine
I sang loudly
And badly
For
The curtains
And I just
Read
This poem to
My coffee cup
A friend
Recently said to me
An appreciator of everything
I think I shall be
I have taken all
The necessary classes
Got down to studying
Put on my glasses
Music appreciation
Art appreciation too
Literature appreciation
To name a few
I can gaze fondly
At a painting so fine
Test my palate
When I go out to dine
Immerse myself
In a wonderful book
Off to an Indy film
To take a look
Listen to an
Orchestra play
Gaze out the window
At a beautiful day
Now if only I
Was paid for this skill
It could be my job
Maybe it will
An appreciator of everything
I think I shall be
I’d be quite good
